Michael Brook - Composer, producer, inventor, collaborator and guitarist, Canadian-born and California-based Michael Brook is one of the true renaissance men of the contemporary music industry. His best-known work includes his Grammy-nominated collaboration with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for Peter Gabriel's Real World; his invention of the 'Infinite' guitar, which helped define the sound of U2 (as on "The Joshua Tree"); his film scores, swiftly gaining international acclaim, with ambient guitar soundtracks for the vital Al Gore documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," and the major motion picture "Into the Wild," directed by Sean Penn and based on the #1 Bestseller by Jon Krakauer; Brook's productions range from the cream of world music -- Youssou N'Dour, Djivan Gasparyan (with whom Michael is currently recording a new album), U.Srinivas and many others -- to the disparate stylings of Sinead O'Connor, Julia Fordham, The Pogues and Mary Margaret O'Hara; his solo albums include include what is regarded as the seminal guitar record of the ambient movement, "Cobalt Blue" (4AD) as well as two albums to be released in the UK in 2008: "RockPaperScissors," featuring Lisa Germano, Paul Buchanan (of the Blue Nile), Ben Christophers and exquisite posthumous collaborations with the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Richard Burton. Just released in the North American Market is the ambient, instrumental piece, "BellCurve." Which marries different atmospheres and landscapes in a truly unique and natural way. There is little Michael Brook has not done at the top level of the industry; and yet it seems his output is constantly increasing, and reaching new creative heights. “Brook splashes his musical canvas with vibrant moods and flowing sonic landscapes that is at once relaxing, stimulating and beautiful. BELLCURVE is a prime example of this… It’s a very chill inducing release that takes you on a journey through light and shadow, and always provides you with something interesting to pay attention to.” ~ In Review, November 2007 |
