RHYTHM OF THE EARTH

A Television series devoted to musical traditions from around the world that have been kept intact from ancient days through oral traditions passed down through the generations. Rhythm of the Earth is focused on the dynamic of how these traditions melted into the mainstream consciousness through contemporary media accessibility and has cross pollinated with different cultures. It is about how we find the common thread that binds us to each other in our search for mutual understanding and peace.

The series will feature master musicians from around the world such as Salif Keita from Mali, Ali Akbar Khan from India, Eliades Ochoa from Cuba, Ziggy Marley from Jamaica- who are but a few who will be showcased along side of Pop musicians such as Sting, Peter Gabriel, Wycliff John and Bonnie Raitt.

The Dalai Lama has written "Among the many forms in which human spirit has tried to express its innermost yearnings and perceptions, music is perhaps the most universal…there is something in music that transcends and unites."

THE VISION

Can we imagine planet Earth as a place of peace and harmony?
Can we envision people from all over the world working and playing together?
Can we embrace the beauty and diversity of various cultures coming together?Building a future of hope and prosperity for all?

Rhythm of the Earth presents a glimpse into the global vision of the world as one community of which we all play a part

…of people of different ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds finding common ground
…of people around the world sharing hopes and dreams together
…of people finding ways to connect with one another
…of people realizing that we are all truly citizens of the world

Rhythm of the Earth demonstrates the power of music

…to lift us beyond narrow identities that have often been destructive and harmful
…to awaken our compassion and understanding for all peoples of the Earth
…to link us all together in a new sense of universal responsibility

THE CONTEXT/SITUATION/NEED/MARKET

The world today is a much smaller place than it used to be
We are all deeply affected by what happens all over the planet, economically, politically, environmentally, socially, etc.
We are witnessing the dawning of globalization and all that entails.

More than ever before is there a need for greater understanding and communication
Longstanding conflicts based on differences of race, culture, or religion threaten our very existence
Increased capabilities to cause harm destroy the fabric of human civilization

Rhythm of the Earth aspires to bridge the geographic and culturally differences.

…telling personal stories of the musicians lives, their lands, their peoples, their values
…awakening awareness of the similarities that connect us
…promoting communication initiated through music's universal language
